The Lighthouse
Our church in it's desire to reach the lost, has a vision for a property that the church has owned for some time.
The Vision:
This property was originally purchased with the intent to demolish it and create parking or a space for future endeavors.
After careful consideration and a re-evaluation of the property, we now understand why the demolition had never happened yet.
The property is located on the banks of the North Branch of the Potomac River. It is often referred to as the National River, since it flows through Washington, DC. This river flows into the Chesapeake Bay, and at the mouth of this bay where it meets the Atlantic Ocean there are many lighthouses to guide the mariners to safe harbor.
Many in this area have been lost to overdose. We believe that far upriver, far from the ocean and the politics of DC, near the very source of this great river, the Fairfax Stone, there is a need for a lighthouse to guide the lost to Christ.
We know that the Word of God teaches us that in these trying and ever hastening times, that Christ is the only "Safe Harbor" we can truly trust. This great need Is so often overlooked by those in charge of our country, but we as the Church of God can never overlook any means to spread the Gospel. That is the "Good News" that there is a safe harbor that does not abide in a pill or needle, but in a guiding light that we want to reveal to those that are struggling to find that safe harbor.
Comprehensive Plan
First Floor:
Separate the one-story portion and convert into a daycare facility to help provide some income to the church for this endeavor.
The balance of the first floor will be remodeled to house our current Food Pantry and Hygiene Pantry
It will also provide a place for the homeless to take a shower, do some laundry and rest.
Second and Third Floor:
These two floors will become a combined halfway housing facility which will have sleeping rooms and a bathroom on the second level.
The third level will contain additional sleeping and a common kitchen area and a common gathering room.
This area could be used for conducting AA etc. meetings for those residing.
Conclusion:
We realize that there will be many steps necessary to achieve this lofty goal. But we know that our God would not have laid this vision on so many of His servants if He were not behind it. His Word has assured us that long difficult journeys such as this begin with faith, and the demonstration of that faith is to take the "first" step.
That is what we are now doing. We have also consulted many that are knowledgeable in the areas of this endeavor for advice, counsel, and even funding.
We observed that this property was still of sound construction with basically a lot of cosmetic changes needed.
When we ponder this project, we realize that unlike normal construction practices where the building is constructed from a cornerstone, we realize that this project's cornerstone is located 30 feet away and is the Family4Life Church of God.
